Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said that he would not apologize for taking an extended “paternity” leave while the U.S. supply chain remains in shambles, Brietbart reported.
Buttigieg and his partner, Chasten, have taken legal custody of twin children in recent months.
In order to care for the children, Buttigieg took a substantial “paternity” leave, despite a crumbling supply chain that could take years to repair.
Fox News’s Tucker Carlson expressed the thoughts of millions when he argued that Buttigieg should spend his time fixing the massive problems that he has helped create.
According to Carlson, “Pete Buttigieg has been on leave from his job since August after adopting a child—paternity leave, they call it—trying to figure out how to breastfeed. No word on how that went.”
But in response, Buttigieg showed no remorse, proclaiming that he is “not going to apologize to Tucker Carlson, or anyone else.”
He then went on to suggest that his maternal role is of greater import than his job.
“As you might imagine, we are bottle feeding and doing it at all hours of the day and night,” he said. “The work we are doing is joyful, fulfilling, important work—it’s important work, and it’s work that every American ought to be able to do [whenever] they welcome a new child into their family.”
Yet Buttigieg also mentioned that the supply chain problems caused by Biden and his administration will likely continue into next year.
“Certainly, a lot of the challenges that we have been experiencing this year will continue into next year,” he said when asked about the supply chains.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, has criticized Buttigieg for his inaction in the face of a disaster.
“We’re in the middle of a transportation crisis, and Pete Buttigieg is sitting at home,” Blackburn said.
“Meanwhile, cargo boats are unable to dock and shelves are sitting empty,” she continued. “Pete needs to either get back to work or leave the Department of Transportation. It’s time to put American families first.”
