Like President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris has been silent on the crisis in Afghanistan even though she once campaigned on withdrawing from the region and helped Biden draft his exit strategy.
Back in April, Harris confirmed that she was the last person in the room with Biden when he made the official decision to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11.
“This is a president who has an extraordinary amount of courage,” she said afterwards. “He is someone, who I have seen over and over again, make decisions based on what he truly believes … is the right thing to do.”
Harris was also a vocal advocate for withdrawal during the 2020 Democratic primaries.
“I fully recognize the importance of diplomacy and development to success in Afghanistan, and I want to ensure that the country is on a path to stability, that we protect the gains that have been made for Afghan women and others, and that it never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists,” she said during the campaign.
But now, because of the decision Harris helped Biden make, the Taliban has retaken Afghanistan and established the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Women are being turned away from schools and their jobs, and the Afghani allies who worked with American troops are being hunted down, according to multiple reports.
Former president Donald Trump called on Biden to “resign in disgrace” over his failed handling of the Afghanistan crisis, and several other domestic issues as well.
“Tragic mess in Afghanistan, a completely open and broken Border, crime at record levels, oil prices through the roof, inflation rising, and taken advantage of by the entire world—DO YOU MISS ME YET?” Trump said this weekend.
