Woman Banned from YMCA for Confronting Groomer in Girls Locker Room

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) An 80-year-old woman has been banned from a YMCA facility in Port Townsend, Washington, for objecting to the presence of a transgender “female” in the women’s showers, according to a report from the Mountain View Free Press.

Julie Jaman was showering in the bathroom at the Mountain View Pool—a City of Port Townsend facility operated by the YMCA—when she noticed a male wearing a women’s swimsuit in the bathroom watching young girls change into their swimsuits.

“There were gaps in the curtain and there I was, naked, with soap and water on me, and this guy, right there very close to me,” Jaman told the MVFP. “I asked, ‘Do you have a penis?’ He said, ‘That’s none of your business.'”

“That’s when I told him, ‘Get out of here, right now,'” Jaman continued.

YMCA employees—whose actions were subsequently backed by Wendy Bart, CEO of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA—attempted to detain Jaman as they called the police, but the octogenarian went straight to the police herself and filed a report.

In response to Jaman’s complaints, Bart argued that “pride” and rainbow signs posted throughout the facility ought to have been sufficient warning that a man might appear in the women’s restrooms.

Jaman recommended that the YMCA post signs indicating that crossdressing males are permitted in women’s restrooms.

“The YMCA should immediately post clear signage indicating the existing dressing/shower rooms will be used by the opposite sex who gender identify differently,” Jaman said.

“Also, all parents who send their children to YMCA programs should be informed that men who identify as women are allowed to accompany little girls into the dressing and bathroom areas.”

According to The Distance, Jaman has filed a petition with the local City Council in order to require the YMCA to provide “traditional” bathrooms for women.

“We, the undersigned, object to men (identifying as women) being allowed to use the traditional women’s shower/dressing room area at Mountain View Pool,” Jaman wrote.

“The YMCA is discriminating against women and girls who need privacy and safety essential for dignity and well being in the womens changing/showering area.”
