Watchdog Asks US Attorney to Probe China’s Ties to Biden Center

'We’ve asked … Weiss to pursue the larger network of individuals and institutions who benefited from millions doled out by foreign interests connected to Hunter Biden’s work in China and Ukraine...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A government-accountability watchdog has asked the US attorney probing Hunter Biden in Delaware to investigate anonymous donations from China to the University of Pennsylvania, where an academic center is named after Joe Biden, the New York Post reported.

Public records show the college received $54.6 million from 2014 through June 2019 in donations from China, including $23.1 million in anonymous gifts.

Most of the donations came after the university announced the creation of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in February 2017.

Joe Biden, who had recently ended his time as vice president, was slated to lead the center and was named a professor at the university.

His longtime aide, current Secretary of State Tony Blinken, served as its managing director, according to the Post.

The center, which is located in Washington, D.C., opened its doors in February 2018. That same year, the university was gifted $15.8 million in anonymous Chinese gifts.

The Virginia-based National Legal and Policy Center said these donations were related to Hunter Biden’s business interests in China.

The NLPC had previously filed a complaint with the Department of Education during the Trump administration, but it got little traction in the chaos of the pandemic and the 2020 election.

Now, the group officially asked US attorney David Weiss to investigate the donations to the school as part of his federal tax probe on the 52-year-old first son.

“We’ve asked … Weiss to pursue the larger network of individuals and institutions who benefited from millions doled out by foreign interests connected to Hunter Biden’s work in China and Ukraine,” said Tom Anderson, director of the NLPC’s Government Integrity Project.

Stephen MacCarthy, a University of Pennsylvania spokesman, denied that any anonymous Chinese money had gone into the center.

“The Penn Biden Center has never solicited or received any gifts from any Chinese or other foreign entity. In fact, the University has never solicited any gifts for the Center,” MacCarthy said.

MacCarthy would not disclose how the mysterious Chinese funds were used ad the school.

Other Ivy League colleges have also received large amounts of Chinese money. Harvard was gifted $75 million, and Yale $43.5 million between 2014-2019.
