Former President Donald Trump said that his supporters will feel “very happy” when he makes his decision about a 2024 presidential run, The Epoch Times reported.
Trump’s comments came in response to a question about his political future from Candace Owens, in an interview on her Daily Wire show.
“The answer is I’m absolutely enthused,” Trump said. “I look forward to doing an announcement at the right time. As you know, it’s very early, but I think people are going to be very, very happy when I make a certain announcement.”
Trump said he does not want to announce his campaign yet because election laws would restrict him.
“And, you know, for campaign finance reasons, you really can’t do it too early, because it becomes a whole different thing. Otherwise, I’d give you an answer that I think you’d be very happy with,” he said. “All I’d say is: stay tuned.”
Election laws would prevent him from spending money as he pleases and force him to disclose donations every quarter.
Last week, Trump told Dan Bongino that he would not announce his 2024 plans until after he sees the results of the 2022 midterm election, The Epoch Times reported.
Republicans hope to flip the House and Senate to a majority in their favor next year.
Complicating that goal, Trump supporters within the Republican Party want to simultaneously oust the Establishment elements from the party’s leadership — specifically Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.
Owens asked Trump if he would consider her to be his vice presidential running mate.
“That’s very interesting. Wow, what a good choice. That would be fantastic,” Trump said. “You would be fantastic. And you know, I really appreciate the job you do. And everybody does.”
