Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced the details of his new social media plan, Truth Social, to be implemented by his Trump Media and Technology Group.
The former chief executive praised Americans for their independence of spirit, but warned them of the dangers of Big Tech, the mainstream media, and the social media monopoly of the elites.
“Nowhere is this censorship more dangerous and brazen than on social media, the public square of our times,” Trump wrote in a press release.
“We have seen renowned medical doctors being banned from platforms for contradicting ‘health authorities’ or questioning the political narrative of the moment,” he continued. “We’ve seen scientists blacklisted for sharing evidence that the pandemic began in a Chinese lab.”
He also slammed the media and Silicon Valley elites for their treatment of him while he remained in office.
“And as everyone knows, we’ve seen a sitting president of the United States effectively silenced by a small oligarchy of tech titans and ‘mainstream’ media corporations,” he said.
He then proceeded to praise freedom of speech, warning against the “wildly aggressive censorship and ‘cancel-culture‘,” for being “un-American.”
Trump then provided details for the “Big Tent” platform, suggesting that people of “all political stripes” and “all different viewpoints” should “come and participate once again in the great American debate”—debate that has long been stifled by “Big Tech platforms” with their “political manipulation.”
Trump also praised his new platform for being as “diverse as America itself.”
He concluded by suggesting that he hopes to create a platform which will allow for true freedom of speech, ensuring that people are not cancelled for their political opinions.
“In the end, a small number of powerful people who all think the same and wish to silence anyone who thinks differently cannot be trusted to control almost every major media, technology, and entertainment company in America.”
