Ted Cruz Faces Blowback for Lying About J6

'You told that lie on purpose, and I’m wondering why you did... '

Fox Host Tucker Carlson pushed back at Sen. Ted Cruz’s explanation regarding his description of the January 6 events as a “violent terrorist attack,” according to videos of the Carlson show shared on Twitter.

During his appearance on the show Cruz, R-Texas, lamely offered an apology of sorts for his comments made the day before.

“The way I phrased things yesterday, it was sloppy and frankly it was dumb,” said Cruz.

But Carlson was having none of it.

“I don’t buy that. Whoa, woah, woah! I don’t buy that!” said Carlson, citing his long acquaintanceship with Cruz.

“You take words as seriously as any man who’s ever served in the Senate. You repeated that phrase. I do not believe you used it accidentally,” Carlson added.

“You told that lie on purpose, and I’m wondering why you did,” Carlson pressed Cruz at one point.

In fact, previously, Cruz used similar wording to describe events on Jan. 6.

“The attack at the Capitol was a despicable act of terrorism and a shocking assault on our democratic system,” Cruz said a day after the Capitol incident in a written statement that repeated sentiments expressed earlier, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Cruz might be trying to have it both ways, as he is widely predicted to be a candidate for president in 2024.

“Cruz, a potential 2024 candidate who has argued he is well-positioned for the Republican presidential nomination after finishing second behind Donald Trump in 2016, further attempted to defend himself,” said Politico.

“I wasn’t saying the thousands of peaceful protesters supporting Donald Trump are somehow terrorists. I wasn’t saying the millions of patriots across the country supporting Trump are terrorists,” said Cruz.

Some social media users, however, also weren’t buying Cruz’s explanation.

“I really hope that Ted Cruz has enjoyed his time in politics… Tucker Carlson just handed him his retirement tonight,” said Tim Young via Twitter
