Republican Congresswoman Introduced Bill to Grant Temporary Asylum to Canadian Truckers

'We cannot be silent as our neighbors to the north are treated so badly...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Nevada representative Yvette Herrell announced that she is going to introduce legislation granting temporary asylum to Canadian truck drivers protesting Canada’s COVID mandates, the Daily Wire reported.

Herrell’s decision comes as a response to the tyrannical overreach from Canada’s left-leaning government as they arrest protestors, freeze their bank accounts and detain their pets.

“Justin Trudeau’s heavy-handed crackdown against peaceful protesters in Canada is not the action of a Western Democracy, but that of an authoritarian regime like Venezuela,” Herrell said. “Just as we provide asylum for political prisoners, we should do the same for truckers who have been subjected to violence, had their property confiscated, and their bank accounts frozen by a government that is quickly becoming the embarrassment of the free world.”

“I am introducing legislation that would temporarily grant asylum to innocent Canadian protesters who are being persecuted by their own government,” she continued. “We cannot be silent as our neighbors to the north are treated so badly.”

The Canadian police were sent out into the protests this week, resulting in arrests and casualties, including a woman who was trampled by a police horses.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been called out for hypocrisy and over-reactionary treatment of the peaceful protesters by politicians, media pundits and more.

Many are displeased with his evoking of Canada’s Emergency Powers Act, including a coalition of Canadian church leaders who wrote an open letter stating their abhorrence for the situation:

As such, we as Christian pastors condemn in the strongest possible terms your unprecedented invoking of the Emergency Powers Act (1988) with the intent of bringing unaccountable state power to bear on peaceful citizens–“men women and children”–who have been stripped of their fundamental freedoms for two years and who have in many cases lost everything as a result of your government’s mandates,” the letter reads. “There is no national emergency and to invoke one to crush peaceful political dissent is a totalitarian act of repression displaying weakness not strength.

“These tyrannical actions are exposing this government and people to the judgment of God, and we are deeply concerned that you do not appreciate the significance of God’s wrath upon a rebellious and lawless nation.”
