Attorney General William Barr was reportedly aware of federal investigations into Hunter Biden, son of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, before the election but made sure information about them was not made public.
A source close to Barr told the Wall Street Journal that Barr avoided providing information on the probes to congressional Republicans, who asked the Justice Department several times to explain what it knew about Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, and whether he was under investigation.
Hunter Biden admitted this week that he is under investigation.
The U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware is investigating his tax affairs, and federal prosecutors have also investigated his foreign ties and his past business deals for possible money laundering, according to Politico.
President Trump pressed Barr to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter Biden before the election.
In October, Trump said, “He’s got to appoint somebody. This is major corruption and this has to be known about before the election.”
But Barr, according to the Journal, made sure the DOJ did not take public steps so as not to “disrupt” the presidential election.
Joe Biden is not under investigation, and he said in a statement that he is “deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger.”
In his own statement, Hunter Biden said, “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”
Trump blasted the DOJ, the FBI, and the “Fake News Media” for not reporting the Hunter Biden investigations before the election.
Why didn’t the Fake News Media, the FBI and the DOJ report the Biden matter BEFORE the Election. Oh well, it’s OK, we won the Election anyway – 75,000,000 VOTES!!!
