(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Mike Pence attacked President Trump and MAGA protesters over J6 on Saturday, in yet another assault on his former running mate while potentially preparing his own 2024 campaign for the presidency.
Mike Pence proclaimed President Trump guilty at an elite white-tie event in Washington D.C. known as “the Gridiron dinner,” according to Reuters.
“President Trump was wrong,” he said. “I had no right to overturn the election, and his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day.”
“I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”
Contrary to the reporting of the media, including an article by The Hill, which reads, “Pence’s remarks were the sharpest condemnation yet from the once-loyal lieutenant who has often shied away from confronting his former boss,” part of these comments were not new.
Indeed, some of Pence’s widely quoted comments were nearly a direct quotation from his book.
“[Trump’s] reckless words had endangered my family and all those serving at the Capitol,” he wrote in his previously released book.
Pence also attacked all involved with the J6 protests at Saturday’s dinner.
“What happened that day was a disgrace,” he said. “And it mocks decency to portray it any other way.”
“For as long as I live, I will never, ever diminish the injuries sustained, the lives lost, or the heroism of law enforcement on that tragic day.”
Pence then condemned the religious beliefs of his former running mate, according to the Associated Press.
“I read that some of those classified documents they found at Mar-a-Lago were actually stuck in the president’s Bible,” he said. “Which proves he had absolutely no idea they were there.”
This is not the first time Pence has attacked Trump over the storage of classified documents. Indeed, Pence denied having any classified documents and attacked President Trump for having them. Pence even said “there would be no reason” to have said documents in one’s possession.
Only later did Pence’s lawyer, Greg Jacob, write a letter to the National Archives explaining that classified documents “were inadvertently boxed and transported to the personal home of the former vice president at the end of the last administration.”
Though he has not announced a run for the office, Yahoo! reported that Pence has ‘promoted his book’ in Republican early voting states, paving the way for a campaign announcement.
