(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Filmmaker Michael Moore accused Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., of spreading “a malicious lie” about Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., by accusing him of sexism.

Moore, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and a Sanders supporter, said during his podcast on Wednesday that Warren’s claim that Sanders told her a woman couldn’t win the presidency is obviously untrue.

“[CNN] ran with that story without any backup or agreement or denial from the Warren campaign. Or the Sanders campaign. And it was shocking. It was shocking to me, because I know both of these people,” Moore said.

“After 48 hours of this, and after watching the debate last, I felt a knife in the heart,” he continued. “My heart.”

Moore said he was sure Warren would apologize and retract her claim, but instead she “confirmed” and “continued the lie.”

Warren accused Sanders of calling her a “liar on national television” after Tuesday’s Democratic primary debate. She refused to shake his hand and confronted him, but Sanders urged her to continue the conversation at a later date.

Ironically, Trump agrees with Moore and defended Sanders during a campaign rally Tuesday: “I don’t believe that Bernie said that. I really don’t … It’s not the kind of thing he’d say,” the president reasoned.

Moore echoed Trump’s sentiments on his podcast this week: “I was paralyzed—paralyzed—that her staffers would say such a thing. Any of us who have known Bernie forever know automatically, we don’t even have to hear him denying saying it, because there’s no way he’d say that.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., wants the Senate to put a temporary halt to hearings about judicial nominees while the Senate conducts its impeachment trial.

Harris cited the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton in 1999 when the Senate Judiciary Committee refused to convene or hold nomination hearings while the impeachment trial proceeded.

“The president is charged with high crimes and misdemeanors, and the Senate must take seriously its constitutional role in this process,” Harris said in a statement. “During the time when articles of impeachment are before the Senate, it would be wholly inappropriate to advance the president’s nominees to the federal judiciary.”

The committee’s GOP leadership hasn’t commented on Harris’s demands, but Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a fellow member of the committee, issued a one word response:

Senate Republicans have confirmed hundreds of conservative judges since President Trump’s election, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has made it clear they have no intention of stopping any time soon.

McConnell also said that if a Supreme Court vacancy appeared this year ahead of the 2020 election, the Senate would fill it.

That announcement outraged Democrats, who cited McConnell’s previous election-year refusal to hold hearings for Obama nominee Merrick Garland after the unexpected 2016 death of conservative stalwart Antonin Scalia.

“Yeah, the reason I started with the judges—as important as all the other things are that we’re talking about—if you want to have a long-lasting positive impact on the country, everything else changes,” McConnell explained.

“What can’t be undone is a lifetime appointment to a young man or woman who believes in the quaint notion that the job of the judge is to follow the law,” he added. “That’s the most important thing for the country, which cannot be undone.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency to temporarily ban weapons from the state capitol grounds ahead of a pro-Second Amendment rally scheduled for next week.

However, gun-rights advocates are pushing back, seeking injunctive relief against the illegal declaration, they say, which violates a 2012 state law.

Northam claimed the individuals protesting the Democratic state legislature’s proposed gun-control legislation pose a threat of “armed confrontation and assault on our Capitol.”

Thus, starting Friday evening and ending Tuesday night, firearms, sticks, bats, chains, and other weapons will be prohibited on the grounds.

State law enforcement had “received credible intelligence” gathered via “dark web channels used by white nationalists outside Virginia” that revealed “malicious plans” to “storm our Capitol” and “weaponize drones,” Northam claimed.

“This includes out-of state militias and hate groups from across the country,” Northam said, according to The Washington Post. “They’re not coming to peacefully protest. They’re coming to intimidate and cause harm.”

In response, Gun Owners of America announced that they had filed suit against Northam.

“The Governor’s action is illegitimate and cannot be allowed to stand,” said GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt in an email to supporters.

“His action infringes on both the First and Second Amendment rights of Virginian’s who wish to peaceably assemble to petition their government, while at the same time not surrendering their right to self-defense,” Pratt said.

According to their suit, requesting a preventative injunction, a 2012 law specifically prevents the governor from banning guns during a state of emergency, including political rallies.

“Like all gun control, this gun ban could have only negative consequences,” Pratt said. “If there are, in fact, any bad actors who would attempt to hijack the rally, they would simply ignore the law.”

More than 100 Virginia counties have declared themselves “Second Amendment sanctuaries” in protest of the state Democrats’ attempts to pass radical anti-gun legislation.

Because of this, Northam said the protests planned for next week are not the same as “peacefully assembled” activist rallies.

“No one wants another incident like the one we saw in Charlottesville in 2017,” he said, referencing the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally that turned deadly. “We will not allow mayhem and violence to happen here.”

But Pratt countered that Northam’s excuse only highlighted the disingenuousness of his politically motivated power-grab.

“Incredibly, Northam is using the 2017 rally … in support of his ban on firearms, ignoring the fact that the unfortunate death that day was a vehicular homicide,” Pratt said. “Northam hasn’t made any attempt to ban cars.”

Some GOP lawmakers in the state acknowledged Northam’s safety concerns, but said the real threat comes from outside “agitators,” not law-abiding Virginia gun owners.

“While we fully expect this to be peaceful, there are legitimate concerns of a few bad actors hijacking the rally,” House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah, said in a statement.

“Law enforcement says those agitators are acting on their own volition and are not part of the busloads of Virginians visiting the Capitol,” he said. “While we are grateful for the precautions taken by law enforcement, the Governor’s actions will unfortunately impede the ability of people to exercise not only their Second Amendment rights, but their First Amendment rights as well.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said she would forgive all student loan debt on “day one” of her presidency if elected—even if Congress disapproves.

Warren suggested that she would use an executive order to bypass Congress and “offer relief” to the 42 million young Americans affected by student loan debt.

“I will start to use existing laws on day one of my presidency to implement my student-loan debt cancellation plan that offers relief to 42 million Americans—in addition to using all available tools to address racial disparities in higher education, crack down on for-profit institutions and eliminate predatory lending,” she said.

The order would fall under the jurisdiction of the Education Department, Warren claimed.

But while the Education Department can cancel federal student loans due to death, disability or fraud, it does not have the authority to simply wipe the slate clean for the tens of millions of students who collectively owe more than $1.5 trillion in student debt.

Warren recruited three legal experts from the Project on Predatory Student Lending at Harvard Law School to vouch for the legality of her plan, and in a letter they wrote that Warren’s plan to bypass Congress is “lawful and permissible.”

Several other higher-education experts disagree.

“The U.S. Department of Education does not have the discretionary authority to cancel student loan debt except in limited circumstances specified by the statute, such as death, disability, or closed schools,” expert Mark Kantrowitz said, according to CNBC.

“Likewise, the authority to compromise debt is limited to situations in which the borrower demonstrates severe financial distress,” he said.

Legislation would still be part of Warren’s plan in order to make the cancellation more permanent.

She wants a bill that would cancel $50,000 in student loan debt for every person with a household income under $100,000, and less for those with a household income between $100,000 and $250,000. Anyone with a household income above $250,000 would not be eligible for student-loan debt cancellation.

However, Warren’s “phase-out” program is not as extreme as that of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. The current Democratic primary front-runner—according to several polls—wants to erase student loan debt entirely, regardless of income.

Colorado Woman Files Gun Confiscation Request Against Police Officer

UPDATE via AP: A judge on Thursday denied a petition to seize the guns of a police officer involved in the 2017 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old which was sought by the teen’s mother under Colorado’s new red flag law.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Colorado’s red flag law, which went into effect Jan. 1, allows law-enforcement officials to petition courts for the right to temporarily confiscate a resident’s weapons.

Now, one vengeful-mother-turned-social-justice-activist is attempting to use it against a police officer, in what some are calling the first abuse of the law.

Susan Holmes, of Fort Collins, filed an extreme risk protection order against the police officer who shot and killed her 19-year-old son in 2017 after he charged at the officer with a knife.

Holmes is currently running for a seat on the Fort Collins City Council and has been a vocal critic of police violence.

Holmes’s petition falsely claims that she and the officer, Cpl. Philip Morris, share a child together—an accusation that is not true, according to Channel 9 News.

But a judge has agreed to hear the case anyway, the outlet reports.

In the petition, Holmes calls Morris a “credible threat,” accusing the officer of using “his firearm to recklessly and violently threaten and kill 19-year-old Jeremy Holmes.”

Morris’s body camera revealed that he had asked Jeremy Holmes multiple times to drop the knife while Holmes continued to move toward him. Morris then reached for his gun to stun Holmes, but Holmes charged at him. Morris and another officer fired at Holmes, killing him.

Colorado House Minority Leader Patrick Neville said Susan Holmes’s abuse of the extreme risk protection order is an example of why red flag laws are dangerous.

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said that even if the judge approved Susan Holmes’s petition, his officers would not confiscate Morris’s guns.

“I have not and will not be serving that petition, not because it’s against a police officer, but because it is a fraud,” Smith said in a statement. “We are actively investigating this abuse of the system, and we will determine what charges may be substantiated against the petitioner, Ms. Holmes.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Former New York Gov. Michael Bloomberg’s presidential campaign manager admitted that both Democrats and Republican pollsters know President Donald Trump will win Iowa in the general election.

“We as Democrats spend a year living in Iowa,” Kevin Sheekey said. “The thing that Democrats and Republican pollsters agree on is that Donald Trump is going to win in Iowa. So we’ve thrown out a year of investment in a state that isn’t going to make a difference.”

Sheekey’s comments were in response to questions about why Bloomberg—a latecomer to the race—hasn’t been heavily campaigning in the two primary caucus states: Iowa and New Hampshire.

But given Iowa’s Republican tilt, spending time and money in Iowa is pointless, Sheekey said.

The billionaire media mogul and former Democrat mega-donor recently pledged to spend a billion dollars of his own money, if necessary, to defeat Trump.

Even so, Sheekey explained, it was necessary to invest shrewdly.

“We put ourselves at an enormous disadvantage to invest every dollar we can over a year into a state that ultimately is not going to make a difference in November,” he said.

Instead, Democrats should focus on important swing states—such as Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Pennsylvania.

“Those are the states that Donald Trump is campaigning in every single day,” Sheekey said.

Bloomberg previously explained in an op-ed why he wouldn’t begin campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire.

He called the political emphasis on the two traditional lead-off states “undemocratic”—and even suggested, in the same vein as other Democratic campaigns, that it was racist to offer them special attention.

“Our current system—in which two early states dominate the candidates’ time and resources—is in urgent need of reform,” Bloomberg wrote.

“While it’s great that candidates reach out to voters in these states at every pancake breakfast and town hall around, what about African–American, Latino, Asian American, Pacific Islanders, and other voters in places like Detroit, Montgomery, Phoenix, and Houston?”

The self-declared moderate also has his eyes on the top prize, California, whose 55 electoral votes make it something of a kingmaker among Democratic candidates, with its radical-leftist politics often helping drive the party’s agenda.

Bloomberg recently said it was a “great example” that other states should look to.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Actor Alec Baldwin, whose impression of President Donald Trump on “Saturday Night Live” earned him an Emmy, claimed that Trump’s supporters are to blame for the “near moral collapse of this country.”

Tweeting from the Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation’s account, Baldwin accused Trump voters of enabling a “desecration of American ideals.”

“The desecration of those ideals and the near moral collapse of this country falls squarely in the lap of Trump’s supporters, as opposed to Trump himself, who is merely what psychology labels the ‘objective negative function,'” Baldwin continued.

The outspoken liberal actor has faced his own share of troubles.

He has been booted off airplanes for refusing to turn his cell phone off and was sentenced to anger-management classes in 2018 for confronting—and allegedly assaulting—a motorist who had taken his parking spot.

He also has been lightly rebuffed by fellow Democrats for his abusive treatment of women and for attacking a British journalist in 2013 with anti-gay slurs and threats of physical violence.

“It is Trump voters, particularly those who would re-elect him, who bear the blame,” Baldwin claimed. “For the undeniable and colossal destruction of everything that matters to us as Americans that cannot be merely monetized.”

Baldwin said last year that he “can’t imagine” playing Trump on SNL again.

“I’m so done with that,” he said.

President Trump regularly mocked Baldwin’s performances and quipped that Darrell Hammond, who impersonated Trump when he was the host of “The Apprentice,” was much better than Baldwin.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) From pole-worker to poll-watcher:  Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders—considered by some to be the current front-runner in the Democratic presidential primary—said it would be “great” if Cardi B, a rapper and former stripper, ran for office.

Cardi B had hinted at a political run on Twitter, claiming that she’d make a good politician.

“I really love government even tho I don’t agree with Government,” Cardi B explained in another tweet.

“Cardi B is deeply concerned about what’s happening in the country. She knows what it’s like to live in poverty and struggle, and it would be great for her to bring that experience to politics,” Sanders told TMZ on Tuesday.

Cardi B has signaled her support for Sanders in the past, filming a campaign video with his team in July to discuss the cancellation of student loan debt, the climate crisis, and raising the minimum wage.

“People are not perfect, but he has the perfect intentions,” Cardi B told Vogue magazine.

“He naturally cares about minorities,” she continued. “He actually cares about people getting Medicare because he knows they can’t afford it. I don’t feel like he’s just saying these things ’cause he want the vote.”

When asked why he supports Cardi B’s political aspirations back in July, Sanders said it’s because she understands which issues are “important” to America’s future generations.

“What it means is, what Cardi B does, not only is she an enormously popular entertainer, what she is doing is speaking to young people about the important issues that are on their minds and I applaud that very much,” he said.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) The Trump administration has agreed to lift its months-long ban on disaster aid relief to Puerto Rico, according to a senior Department of Housing and Urban Development official.

Congress authorized more than $20 billion in aid to the island to assist with its hurricane relief efforts. But Trump placed a hold on the funds due to rampant government corruption on the island.

“Their political system is broken and their politicians are either incompetent or corrupt,” he said in September, adding that billions of dollars in previous aid had gone to “crooks pols. No good!”

Now HUD is working to develop a plan to distribute at least $8.2 billion, according to Politico. The delay stemmed from an effort to ensure that proper safeguards were in place before the administration released the funds, the official said.

“Now that a full financial monitoring team is assembled and active, we can move forward with confidence that these disaster recovery funds will reach those who need them the most,” the official explained.

Puerto Rico has suffered a series of damaging earthquakes, and congressional Democratic leadership had been putting pressure on the Trump administration to stop the “unlawful withholding of funds from Puerto Rico.”

“There has been a disaster designated, but the ongoing withholding of funds appropriated by Congress to Puerto Rico is illegal and we call upon the administration to cease and desist that illegal activity,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said last week.

Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González said this is “the best news in months,” noting she had taken the issue directly to Trump last week. “We’ve been fighting this for months,” she said.

Puerto Rico has a long history of fraudulent corruption. Just last year, federal authorities arrested several former Federal Emergency Management Authority officials for bribery, fraud and corruption in the handling of Puerto Rico’s recovery from Hurricane Maria.

Ohio’s Medicaid System Faces Massive Crisis Due to John Kasich’s Negligence

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Ohio Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran said in a letter to Gov. Mike DeWine that the agency is a disaster, and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich is to blame.

In a 13-page report sent to DeWine, Corcoran said the agency “as we inherited it, was a mess,” and accused Kasich of failing to protect the privacy of hundreds of beneficiaries while crippling the system, forcing many Ohio residents to look out of state for treatment.

As a result, the system now faces a severe caseload backlog and an error rate so large that federal regulators threatened to fine the state $6 billion in penalties.

“This is not personal, this is not denigrating,” Corcoran told the Columbus Dispatch. “It is about being open about realities held in secret.”

There are more than 1,000 defects with the $1.2 billion Ohio Benefits system, Corcoran said. Some of them have to do with privacy incidents. More than 700 members have either received mail for other members, or they’ve been able to access the online portals of other members.

The system has also ascribed incorrect renewal dates, causing late renewals. And in some cases, the system failed to renew health benefit plans entirely.

“This could have been prevented, or at least mitigated, had the past administration acknowledged and addressed it, rather than kicking the can down the road,” Corcoran said.

The “challenges” left by Kasich have required Corcoran to redirect “numerous resources—both human capital and financial resources—to repairing issues inherited by the DeWine administration,” the report states.

Kasich, however, has continued to brag about how he expanded Medicaid in the state under Obamacare, bucking GOP leadership to do so.

He also made expanded healthcare benefits a central part of his failed 2016 presidential bid. “This is about putting ourselves in somebody else’s shoes,” Kasich said back in 2016. “Think about what your life would be like if you didn’t know if you could get any health care.”

But on his way out of office, Kasich made massive cuts to the program, blindsiding the state’s 88 county Medicaid programs with millions of dollars in funding cuts.

“For the outgoing Republican Kasich administration to have so badly bungled this transition to the incoming Republican administration of Gov. Mike DeWine suggests it wasn’t just a fumble but maybe something more deliberate,” the Dispatch’s editorial board wrote at the time. “And we’ll tack on ‘cowardly’ for good measure.”
