Michelle Obama Tells Abortion Activists to ‘Double Down’ after Kavanaugh Threat

'And if we want to shift the tide, we can’t afford to get cynical or throw our hands up and walk away... '

(Headline USA) Former First Lady Michelle Obama urged abortion advocates to “double down” on their efforts to protect Roe v. Wade just days after a leftist activist tried to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

A leaked draft opinion released earlier this year revealed that the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade. The decision was not final, but it is expected to be finalized and released by the end of the month.

“So we’ve got to get work today. We’ve got to press our elected leaders at every level to pull every lever they can to protect the right to safe, legal abortion — right now,” Obama wrote on Instagram.

Obama blasted the possible overturning of Roe as a “culmination” of decades of dangerous conservative advocacy.

“And if we want to shift the tide, we can’t afford to get cynical or throw our hands up and walk away,” she said. “We have to double down, get even more organized, and join the activists who’ve been doing this work away from the spotlight for so long.”

Obama’s comments come just days after a man carrying a gun, a knife, and zip ties was arrested near Kavanaugh’s house in Maryland after threatening to kill the justice. The would-be assassin, Nicholas John Roske, was allegedly enraged at the potential overturning of Roe and decided to break into Kavanaugh’s house and kill him.
