(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, will release a set agenda for House Republicans on Sept. 19 in Pittsburgh, in hopes of winning a majority in the midterms.
According to Axios, McCarthy designed the new contract to produce positive messaging for the midterms. The highlighted policy areas are thus to be understood as solutions, not attacks on the Biden administration, per Axios. McCarthy organized the new contract into four categories.
The first category is economic issues, and McCarthy urges members to focus on solutions to inflation, gas prices, supply chain issues and economic competition with China.
The second category is the security of American citizens and American sovereignty, which appears to draw heavily from the policy platform espoused by former President Donald Trump. McCarthy will urge members to focus on border control, illegal immigration, violent crime, and drugs pouring over our borders.
The third category, as reported by Axios, is about three different kinds of freedom, which include economic freedom so that Americans can “make sure every kid in every neighborhood can succeed.” Another listed goal is to increase American freedom as it relates to healthcare. Finally, McCarthy wants members to “confront Big Tech and advance free speech.”
The fourth and final part of the message concerns governmental accountability. Specifically, the document includes a promise to “ensure safe and fair elections.”
The new contract, despite promising to ensure election integrity, does not mention any concerns about the election of 2020.
The new campaign strategy is reminiscent of New Gingrich’s Republican Contract with America, which in 1994 produced the first Republican majority in the House of Representatives in 40 years.
