Liberal Lawfare Attorney Marc Elias Receives DOJ Letter in Alaska Probe

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) At least 20 Democrats received preservation letters as part of the Trump administration’s investigation into the “decoy Dan Sullivan” scheme, an effort allegedly designed to confuse voters seeking to support incumbent GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan.

Among the recipients of the letters was Marc Elias, a Democratic attorney who has positioned himself as the leading figure in the legal fight against Trump. Elias currently represents Sullivan’s Democratic opponent, Mary Peltola.

An anonymous source told The New York Times in a Tuesday story that federal prosecutors within the DOJ are looking at potential donor fraud and conspiracy charges. Separately, the DOJ issued “about 100 subpoenas” as part of the probe, according to the newspaper.

For months, the Democratic Party, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Peltola campaign denied any involvement in efforts to recruit individuals whose names resembled that of Sullivan, the Republican senator.

The New York Times, however, published bombshell reporting indicating that Democrats were indeed involved in the efforts to potentially confuse voters navigating Alaska’s already complex ranked-choice voting system.

Voters had to distinguish between Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and a similarly named individual, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., on the ballot. Sullivan’s seat was still up for grabs as of the publication of this article.

The investigation has also drawn attention to Marc Elias, who appears to have come under scrutiny himself.

President Donald Trump has directly accused Elias and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of leading the efforts to recruit “Daniel J. Sullivan Jr.”

In response, Elias spent an hour livestreaming his reaction to the investigation, dismissing its implications and suggesting, without concrete evidence, it was another example of Trump’s efforts to target him.

“I am aware that there are various news reports about what the Department of Justice is up to as it relates to me and others,” Elias said. “I don’t have a lot to say about this that I’ve not said before about Donald Trump, which is that nobody should be surprised that Donald Trump is targeting me.”

Elias added that “nobody should be surprised that the Department of Justice is willing to do his bidding in targeting his political opponents.”

“The fact that they’re doing it on Election Day pretty much tells you everything you need to know about what they’re up to,” he continued.
