(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Given that, under the regime of President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, millions illegals have crossed the border, the soon-to-be Republican House majority has said it plans to investigate the DHS’s lack of action to secure the border.
Veteran Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sent a letter to Mayorkas earlier this week, alerting him to prepare for Congress’s summons, Breitbart reported.
“Over the past twenty-one months, we have made several requests for information and documents concerning the operations and actions of the Department of Homeland Security(DHS) and its components,” Jordan wrote.
“We reiterated and itemized these requests in our recent letters of October 17, 2022, and October 28, 2022, which are enclosed for your convenience,” he continued. “To date, you have ignored these requests, or you have failed to respond sufficiently.”
Jordan also noted that if the unelected bureaucracy continued to ignore duly elected officials, they would be compelled to testify before the House under less friendly circumstances.
“Please be aware that if our requests remain outstanding at the beginning of the 118th Congress, the Committee may beforced to resort to compulsory process to obtain the material we require.”
According to the letter, Republicans anticipate demanding testimony from the following DHS officials:
- Alejandro Mayorkas
- Ur Jaddou, USCIS
- Tae Johnson, ICE
- Kerry E. Doyle, ICE
- Blas Nunez-Neto, CBP
- Chief Raul L. Ortiz, CBP
- Jennifer Daskal, Office of the General Counsel
- Adam Hunter, Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plan
- Jen Easterly, CISA
- Geoff Hale, CISA
- Julia Treanor, CISA
Jordan also announced that the House would conduct an investigation into the FBI’s partisan raid of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, and would also take up the case of Hunter Biden, who has gone unpunished despite his well-documented traitorous activities.
It remains to be seen, however, whether the corrupt Justice Department will assist Congress in enforcing any subpoenas it issues. While Attorney General Merrick Garland took the rare step of prosecuting Trump allies like Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress during the previous term, congressional subpoenas have been blatantly disregarded by many on the Left under previous GOP rule.
Garland himself has been floated as a possible candidate for impeachment over his role in turning the DOJ into a partisan attack-dog arm of the Biden White House. But the narrow majority in Congress could complicate any such impeachment efforts.
