House Blocks Bill to Allow Illegals, Foreign Nationals to Vote in D.C.

'I am vehemently against unconstitutionally cheapening the votes of American citizens and ignoring the rule of law in this nation...'

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Republicans in the House of Representatives, with the support of a small number of Democrats, blocked a bill earlier this week that would have allowed illegal immigrants and foreigners to vote in the city of Washington, D.C., the Post Millennial reported.

The bill, called the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, was initially drafted by D.C.’s far-left City Council. It gave foreigners—those here both legally and illegally–voting rights in local elections in the nation’s capital city.

But due to the District’s special designation under the U.S. Contitution, the federal Congress ultimately has final say in its municipal matters, as well. The bill was transmitted to Congress last month.

The House passed a resolution striking down the bill by a vote of 260-162. The bill, however, will not be fully void until the Senate votes on it and President Joe Biden signs off on the Congressional decision.

The House resolution is particularly consequential because, according to the Washington Post, there are 50,000 foreigners living in DC.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., slammed the D.C. Council for its absurd piece of legislation.

“Allowing non-citizens, including aliens occupying our nation illegally, to exercise a right reserved for American citizens not only violates the constitutional principles our nation was founded upon, but also naively invites foreign meddling in our elections,” Cruz said.

He also noted that such an action, while violating the Constitution, would also use federal tax money to pay for non-citizens to vote.

“Voting is a privilege and the tool by which American citizens exercise their say in who leads our country, how we spend our tax dollars, and what policies should be instituted,” Cruz said. “I am vehemently against unconstitutionally cheapening the votes of American citizens and ignoring the rule of law in this nation.”

Meanwhile leftists slammed House Republicans as racist for not expanding the American ballot to non-Americans.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed that Republicans are racist and opposed to self-government.

Republicans “claim they believe in the sacred right to vote while denying that right to vote to an overwhelmingly black city,” while meddling in “the business of D.C. residents,” AOC ranted.

“They’re singling out the residents of the District of Columbia and expanding in the history of disenfranchisement that goes all the way back to the legacy of slavery,” she claimed.
