(John Ransom, Headline USA) A group of six black teens assaulted a Hasidic Jewish man in Brooklyn that was caught on tape, according to the New York Daily News.
The gang jumped on the 21-year old man and forced him to the ground, hitting and kicking him, without any prior provocation, said a police statement, according to the Jewish Press.
Police believe that the man was intentionally targeted because he was Jewish.
“These six individuals have nothing better to do than attack a Hasidic Jew – what cowards, what cowards they are,” said activist Dov Hikind, founder of Americans Against Antisemitism told local ABC News 7.
“I want to call them animals, but that’s not fair to the animals,” added Hikind.
The NYPD is investigating 81 hate crimes against Jews as of March 27, four times the total for the same date last year, said the New York Daily News.
Hikind said that antisemitism in NYC is out of control and something needs to be done about it.
“Unfortunately, Jew-hatred is out of control in New York. Where is the hate coming from and why?” Hikind asked ABC News.
A 16-year old was later arrested on suspicion of being involved in the assault, but remains unidentified because he’s a youth, said the New York Post.
The teen was arrested in connection to suspicion of carjacking on Saturday said the New York Daily News.
NYPD Crimestoppers offered a $3500 reward for the arrest of suspects involved in the attack via a Twitter post that included video of the assault.
Hikind called out New York Mayor Eric Adams, warning that it’s only a matter of time before a murder occurs if the city doesn’t come up with a plan to fight anti-semitism.
“How many Jews need to be viciously attacked before something is done about it?! Do Jews need to be killed for it to register,” asked Hikind via Twitter.
“What is the plan for dealing with this violent Jew-hatred, @NYCMayor,” concluded Hikind.
