Harris Calls for Gun Confiscation Following Maine Massacre, Cites Australia as Model

'[I]t does not have to be this way, as our friends in Australia have demonstrated...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) Vice President Kamala Harris condemned gun violence following the tragic incident in Lewiston, Maine, where a 40-year-old man killed 18 individuals and injured several others.

During a luncheon with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Harris seized on the incident to call on draconian gun control measures, drawing parallels to Australia’s national gun confiscation of 1997.

“In our country today, the leading cause of death of American children is gun violence.  Gun violence has terrorized and traumatized so many of our communities in this country, Harris claimed on Oct. 26. “And let us be clear, it does not have to be this way, as our friends in Australia have demonstrated.”

Australia notably executed an extensive gun confiscation program between 1996 and 1997, resulting in the retrieval of around 650,000 privately owned firearms. According to a 2022 report, this initiative marked one of the largest mandatory gun buyback laws in recent history.

Harris’s remarks sparked outrage on social media, with critics accusing her of advocating for the confiscation of guns in the United States.

“Kamala Harris references Australia as a country the United States should model themselves after when it comes to gun control,” remarked Collin Rugg, co-founder of Trending Politics. “Starting in 1996, Australia collected about 650,000 privately owned guns in a mandatory buyback. They also established a gun registry and banned pump action shotguns and semi-automatic rifles.”

Rugg further added, “The Biden Regime is saying the quiet part out loud. Despicable.” Podcast host Robby Starbuck also weighed in, stating, “[Harris] just admitted what Democrats really want: To confiscate all of your guns. We must NEVER let them do that!”

Harris’s comments come in the wake of the Oct. 25 incident where Robert Card carried out a massacre before reportedly taking his own life. A two-day manhunt ensued after his inhumane killing of 18 Americans.

“Last night, Lewiston became yet another community torn apart by senseless gun violence.  Once again, routine gatherings — this time at a bowling alley and a restaurant — have been turned into scenes of horrific carnage,” Harris said.

“Doug and I mourn for those who were killed. We pray for those who are injured and grieve with so many whose lives are forever changed and impacted by what happened.”
