Girl Guides of Canada Renaming ‘Brownies’ Because Racism

'We heard from several members and former members that the name Brownies has caused them personal harm... '

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Girl Guides of Canada announced on Tuesday that the organization would rename the “Brownies,” a title given to their 7- to 8-year-old members, justifying the decision by claiming that the title causes “personal harm” to non-white people.

The organization also included some standard leftist rhetoric and virtue-signaling about how “important” and “necessary” it was to create “an inclusive and equitable space where every racialized girl in Canada feels like they belong and are welcomed in Guiding,” reported the Post Millennial.

“As the leading organization for girls and women in Canada, it’s critical that we listen to girls’ voices and take action when they speak up,” Girl Guides of Canada CEO Jill Zelmanovits said.

“We heard from several members and former members that the name Brownies has caused them personal harm, so we are changing the name of this branch to further remove barriers for belonging for racialized girls and women.”

The organization said that the new title will be revealed in January 2023, and will take effect in September of the same year.

The leftists haven’t publicly announced any possible replacements, but said the decision is being made with the help of the so-called “racialized members,” as well as other members and the community.

“Our program activities and badges will remain the same. The focus for all girls in Guiding remains on fun, friendship, exploring her world and sharing new experiences – this will not change,” Zelmanovits said.

This is not the first time Girl Guides of Canada caved to leftist ideology.

In 2015, the organization allowed boys who identified themselves as girls to join, and four years later the classic uniform was swapped for a new “simplified” uniform that “embraces the richness of its members’ diversity and reduces barriers to belonging.”
