(Headline USA) Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that he will not run for governor, ending months of speculation about whether he would primary Gov. Kathy Hochul.
“No, I am not going to be running for governor in New York State, but I am going to devote every fiber of my being to fight inequality in the state of New York,” de Blasio said in a video.
“We’ve got a lot to do together,” he said. “I’m gonna share some more news with you in the days ahead. And let’s keep this fight going because we proved change can happen in New York.”

De Blasio left office with extremely low approval ratings, yet he has continued to tout his time as New York City’s mayor as one of “progress.”
“We changed things in this town,” he said. “We proved we could do big things.”
As one of his last acts, de Blasio implemented a private sector mandate forcing all businesses in the city to require that their employees get vaccinated against COVID-19. He also mandated that all indoor venues, such as restaurants and gyms, require proof of vaccination from customers ages 5-years-old and up.
New York City’s residents made it clear on Tuesday that they don’t miss him.
