Florida Man Blames Putin-Anxiety to Avoid Speeding Ticket

'I’m freaking out here, okay. I got people in Ukraine... '

(John RansomHeadline USA) A Florida man stopped for running a stop sign and speeding had a litany of excuses for why he failed to follow the law, including his fear that Russian President Vladimir Putin would launch thermal nuclear war, according to a video of the stop shared on Twitter.

The driver was doing 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, said the Miami Herald, which quoted the county sheriffs’ Facebook post for the numbers.

“Do you know the reason I stopped you? How fast do you think you were going?” the deputy asked the man in the video taken by the cop’s body cam.

“I just got this thing, okay, sir,” said the man, referring to his new car.

“I clearly saw you run the stop sign, make a left turn and then hop on the gas,” the deputy said, not buying the man’s excuse, even as the man kept interrupting with “I’m sorry,” which he clearly wasn’t from the video.

When that line of reasoning didn’t work, the man tried to use a voice as if he was leveling with the deputy, saying he would tell the deputy “the truth.”

“I just found out that Putin just said he’s gonna launch nuclear thermal war against the world and I was trying to get back to my house to find out what’s going on,” the man said according to Local 10’s Caught on Camera segment.

The officer was having none of it, just as he refused to accept the previous excuses from the bad-acting driver.

“I was sitting right there,” the deputy kept emphasizing.

“I’m freaking out here, okay. I got people in Ukraine,” said the driver.

At that moment one can hear the deputy audibly scoff at the scofflaw.

The Miami Herald noticed that the video was taken Feb. 24 and as of yet, Putin has failed to launch any nuclear strike.

That should console the driver that he’ll live to speed again, as, according to Local 10, he got tickets for speeding and running a stop sign.
