(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Former New York Gov. David Paterson issued a stark caution on Sunday regarding the escalating turmoil triggered by the influx of undocumented immigrants in U.S. cities.
Speaking during a Sunday interview on John Catsimatidis’s radio show on WABC 770AM radio, Paterson, a Democrat, raised concerns over the lack of federal response to the burgeoning crisis, caused by the Biden administration’s open-border policies.
“There does not seem to be any willingness or ability on the part of the federal government,” Paterson stated as reported by the New York Post, emphasizing the administration’s apparent disregard for the chaos.
He further criticized what he believed to be inadequate financial support, adding, “The federal government just decided they are sending the people in, and we should just be happy. I don’t know what it is that they expect. They sent really no money.”
Paterson’s remarks echoed previous statements by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has called on the Biden administration to address the origins of the chaos.
In the interview, Paterson similarly painted a grim picture of potential unrest if the issue persists, warning of a potential “city versus country revolt.”
“It could in some ways backfire when other cities have the same problem as New York City,” Paterson added referring to the chaos that could ensue in other American cities. “There might be a kind of city versus country revolt — which we probably need at this point.”
While highlighting the public’s empathy towards immigrants, Paterson advocated for a measured approach to assistance.
“I think most people are very sympathetic to the plight of the migrants and would like to help,” the former governor continued. “But as in any situation, even when you’re giving to charity, you give as much as you can, not as much as they think you should.”
Paterson also criticized the hurried implementation of the so-called border strategy, suggesting that the Biden administration should have taken more time to address the facilities of receiving locations.
“This is the kind of plan that should never have been enacted within a year,” he stated. “[The Biden administration] should have taken a year to try to adjust the facilities and the capacity of a city or a town or wherever you’re sending migrants.”
