(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) In a closed-door interview with House Republicans, an IRS special agent shed light on the damning allegations that the Justice Department interfered in the IRS probe of Hunter Biden.
IRS Special Agent in Charge Darrell Waldon acknowledged to the House Ways and Means Committee that he recommended the removal of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley from the probe citing bias, while also admitting key sections of Shapley’s testimony that the investigation was limited.
According to Fox News, Waldon specifically said, “So before I left the special agent in charge position, in February, I recommended to [IRS Director of Field Operations Michael Batdorf] that Gary Shapley be removed as the [supervisory special agent] from the Hunter Biden investigation, primarily due to what I perceived to be unsubstantiated allegations about motive, intent, bias.”
Waldon is one of the members who took part in an Oct. 7, 2022 meeting during which then-U.S. District Attorney David Weiss admitted that he did not enjoy complete authority to prosecute Hunter if he wanted.
Furthermore, Waldon corroborated Shapley’s claims of limitations in the scope of investigative duties. “Yes. Or I should say at least of the things that they can ask in interviews, is my general awareness,” Waldon said.
He also confirmed the existence of a discussion within his team regarding being “restricted from requesting certain interviews of relatives of Hunter Biden.”
Despite these revelations, Waldon denied that Shapley’s specific requests had been denied.
Shapley told the House Oversight Committee in July that he previously memorialized in an email a meeting where U.S. Attorney David Weiss stated that he was not the sole decision-maker regarding filing charges in the case, indicating that he had sought charges in the D.C. and California district attorney’s offices but was denied.
House Republicans pressed Waldon on the alleged stonewalling. “There was processes that Mr. Weiss would have to work out with the Department of Justice, and that’s my basic understanding,” Waldon said.
