Dominion Voting Systems is demanding that attorney Sidney Powell retract her claims that the company’s voting software contributed to widespread fraud in several battleground states.
The company sent a letter to Powell warning her that she will expose both herself and President Donald Trump’s campaign to “substantial legal risk for defamation” if she refuses to publicly recant the claims she has made about the company.
“As a result of your false accusations, Dominion has suffered enormous harm, and its employees have been stalked, have been harassed, and have received death threats,” Clare Lock, an attorney for Dominion, wrote in the letter.
“We demand that you immediately and publicly retract your false accusations and set the record straight,” Lock continued. “If you refuse to do so and instead choose to stand by your defamatory falsehoods, that will be viewed as additional evidence of actual malice.”
Powell has alleged that Dominion used an algorithm to flip votes from Trump to Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
She also claimed that Dominion paid kickbacks to GOP officials in Georgia to keep quiet about the scheme.
The city of Detroit also issued a response to Powell’s allegations this week, asking a federal judge to impose sanctions on her for making false claims.
“Few lawsuits breathe more lies than this one,” the city’s filing said. “The allegations are little more than fevered rantings of conspiracy theorists built on the work of other conspiracy theorists.”
The complaint cast aspersions on Powell’s sources, even though hundreds of witnesses have offered sworn testimony regarding the vote fraud involved in ballot tabulation.
“Plaintiffs rely on affidavits of so-called ‘experts’—really confidence men who spread lie after lie under cover of academic credential—which misstate obviously false statistics,” claimed the Detroit filing. “These ‘experts’ use academic jargon as if that could transmute their claims from conspiracy theory to legal theory.”
If U.S. District Judge Linda Parker approves Detroit’s request, Powell could face hefty fines and will be banned from practicing law in the Eastern District of Michigan.
