According to a Disney press release, their new Disney Pride Collection is meant to appeal to employees and customers who define themselves in these ways. Disney has apparently granted such people a central place in the company despite the scrutiny that the company has faced in recent months.
“The Disney Pride Collection was created by LGBTQIA+ employees and allies at The Walt Disney Company and is a reflection of their incredible contributions and place at the heart of the company,” the Mouse’s statement read.
“We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community everywhere.”
Further, they promised to donate their profits to various LGTBQIA+ organizations that spread activism to children across the nation.
“The Walt Disney Company will be donating all of our profits from the Disney Pride Collection sales now through June 30, 2022 to organizations that support LGBTQIA+ youth and families,” they wrote.
“This includes sales of Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars Pride Collection merchandise,” they added.
Among those receiving money from Disney are the Ali Forney Center and the Zebra Coalition.
According to its website, “the Ali Forney Center is the largest organization working to care for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning youths who have been rejected by their families and thrown out into the streets because of their identity.”
The mission of Zebra Coalition is to “empower LGBTQ+ youth to thrive. The Coalition envisions a community where all LGBTQ+ youth feel safe and empowered.”
Some on Twitter took photos of the new Disney Pride line, which has recently hit the shelves at retailers.
