(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Border patrol agents captured over $900,000 in methamphetamine, a previously deported gang member with an extensive criminal record and two individuals suspected of murder, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced last week.
The Office of Field Operations at the Texas-based Hidalgo International Bridge captured $919,000 in presumable methamphetamine disguised as candy and other canned food by southern border drug traffickers, a Friday press release said.
“These harmful narcotics will not make it to American streets thanks to our CBP officers who used their intuition and all our available tools and resources to stop this smuggling attempt,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez.
An additional 31 pounds of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine with a value of over $312,000 were captured by border agents based out of El Paso, Texas. The 31 pounds of illegal narcotics came from Mexico through a 20-year-old American citizen smuggler, CBP said Friday.
The massive seizure marked a busy week for border agents who also captured a “lawless gang member,” who had been previously deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Mexican national Heriberto Bustos-Bautista, a 26-year-old known member of the Latin Kings gruesome gang, had been convicted of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon, was apprehended and determined to be in the U.S. unlawfully on April 19, CBP said Wednesday.

On a serape announcement, CBP said they apprehended two individuals suspected of murder out of Dallas, Texas, according to warrants issued by the Texas law enforcement. “Border Patrol Agents encounter a wide array of criminals in the course of their daily duties,” said El Centro Sector Chief Gregory Bovino. “In this case two suspects wanted for murder were taken off the streets and into custody – great job to our agents, nicely done!”

The scathing announcements came days after CBP touted the capture of more than three million blue fentanyl pills also disguised as shipment of green beans at another entry facility, local media reported on April 18.
Republican members of Congress are pushing to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who oversees CBP, over what they’ve labeled as incompetence.
“Ever since Biden took office… There have been over 4 million illegal alien apprehensions at our US-Mexican border and at least 1.2 million KNOWN got-a-ways,” Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., said on Twitter. “We must impeach Biden’s Border Sec. Mayorkas.”
