(Headline USA) President Joe Biden said this week that he plans to run for reelection in 2024 but that he is not ready to make an official announcement yet.
During an interview with NBC’s Al Roker for the Today show, Roker asked Biden whether he plans to host future Easter events — a nod to his reelection ambitions.
“I plan on at least three or four more Easter egg rolls. Maybe five. Maybe six, what the hell? I don’t know,” Biden said
“Are you saying that you would be taking part in our upcoming election in 2024? Help a brother out, make some news for me,” Roker babbled.
“I plan on running, Al,” Biden added. “But we’re not prepared to announce it yet.”
Biden’s team has repeatedly insisted that he plans to run for reelection, despite his sagging approval ratings and growing concerns about his physical fitness. When asked whether voters’ low approval of Biden would have any effect on his decision to run, Biden shrugged off their concerns.
“What is your message to them and how does that factor into your final decision about whether or not to run for reelection?” a reporter asked last November.
“It doesn’t,” Biden said.
“What’s your message to them?” the reporter continued.
“Watch me,” Biden said.
The latest reports indicate Biden might make an official announcement this summer.
Biden’s hopes for reelection were buoyed by Democrats’ better-than-expected midterms performance. It’s likely he also thinks his chances of reelection will be much higher now that former President Donald Trump has entered the 2024 race. Last year, Biden even said he hoped Trump launched another campaign.
“In the next election, I’d be very fortunate if I had that same man running against me,” Biden said.
