(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) President Joe Biden’s Department of Education disbanded its critical race theory-laden ‘parents council’ after the threat of a lawsuit from parents concerned about the radical teachings the group was promoting.
The Department of Education “has decided to not move forward with the National Parents and Families Engagement Council,” according to an announcement made by the department.
The announcement listed a lawsuit by “several organizations” accusing the Biden Department of Education of “violat[ing] the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) when it established the Council,” as the official reason for dropping the program.
One of the organizations who participated in the lawsuit was Parents Defending Education. Nicole Neily, the president of that organization, expressed disdain over the treatment of parents by the Biden administration in this process.
“Students do best when their families are involved in their education – and it should be a goal at the federal, state, and local level to bring us into the process, not to shut us out when our perspectives and values differ,” she said, according to the Tennessee Star.
She continued, “parents will not be used as window dressing to advance radical policies, and we will do everything in our power to protect and defend our children from those who would do them harm.”
The Department of Education was also pressured by a letter from Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-La., who last week chastised the department.
He said the education crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic made it apparent that schools needed to be brought close to families. However, he said that “the Department has filled the Council with organizations that have limited, if any, engagement at the local level.”
He also tweeted that, “The Biden administration seems to have forgotten to include any actual families or parents on their National Parents and Families Engagement Council.”
Cassidy concluded his tweet by observing that “they stacked it with liberal activists pushing #CRT.”
