Ariz. Dem. Gov. Candidate Roasted for Reported ‘Slave Auction’ History

'Will Katie Hobbs answer questions about her pattern of racist incidents or will she hide out in her bunker? ... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USAArizona Democrat gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs last week dissolved into a puddle of spilled liquids while fleeing a media interview, and after recent revelations about her reported slave-auctioneering history were made public, she’s probably is still running.

Hobbs was a student leader at a Catholic preparatory high school when pupils took part in a yearly tradition known as “Slave Day,” the Daily Mail reported earlier this week.

The school “tradition” depicted in class yearbooks from when Hobbs attended the school showed freshman students being put up for “auction” as slaves for senior class “masters.”

The yearbooks don’t make clear if Hobbs participated in the “auctions,” but an attribution from the Student Council page “credits her and the other student leaders for having ‘coordinated the many class events during Spirit Week’ – when Slave Day appears to have been celebrated,” according to the Mail.

“An accompanying image shows a student on their knees while wearing a collar and leash led by what appears to be a fellow classmate,” reported the Mail, which noted that one section of Hobbs’ senior class yearbook “refers to her grade ‘paying for cruelties rendered’ during freshman initiation week on a day called ‘Senior Slave Day.’”

Hobbs, who is currently in a statistical dead heat in the governor’s race against Republican Kari Lake, did not respond to the Daily Mail’s requests for comment.

Lake didn’t hold back.

“Well, you know, I guess I should say I’m not surprised,” Lake told Fox News. “She’s actually the worst candidate I think I’ve ever seen the Democrats put forth for a statewide office.”

As additional proof, Lake referenced her opponent’s history as a “twice-convicted racist here in Arizona” during Hobbs’ stint as state Senate minority leader, when a staffer accused her of racial and sexual discrimination.

“That woman sued her, two juries unanimously found Katie Hobbs guilty of racial and sexual discrimination, and the people of Arizona are paying nearly $3 million in settlement fees because of that,” Lake said.

“Democrat Katie Hobbs has a problem — Hobbs’ racist incidents are stacking up and this story is not going away,” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.
