All but 4 Sen. Republicans Demand Garland Respect Durham’s Autonomy

(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) Every Republican Senator except four signed a letter telling Attorney General Merrick Garland to respect Special Counsel John Durham‘s independent investigation into the origins of the Russia collusion hoax, Just the News reported.

“We write to seek your assurance that you will continue to respect the prosecutorial independence of Special Counsel John Durham and his staff, while also ensuring he is provided all resources necessary to fully, thoroughly, and completely pursue the investigation for which he was appointed,” the Republicans wrote.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., led the effort to ensure that Garland respects Durham’s authority.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska., Susan Collins, R-Maine., Mitt Romney, R-Utah., and Bill Cassidy, La., refused to sign the letter.

Republicans have felt anxious to protect Durham after he filed an explosive motion on Feb. 11 that confirms Trump’s spying claims.

The filing stated that Hillary Clinton‘s presidential campagin paid hackers to “mine” former President Donald Trump‘s private internet servers “for the purpose of gathering derogatory information about Donald Trump.”

The Republican Senators described Durham’s filing as a “highly concerning, and potentially criminal, manipulation and exploitation of federal law enforcement resources to target American citizens, including a presidential candidate.”

Clinton targeted Trump “based upon fabricated evidence that had been procured and disseminated by individuals closely connected with a rival political campaign.”

In an earlier bid to protect the investigation’s independence, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo. told Garland to force Justice Department officials with personal connections to Clinton to recuse themselves from the probe.

The Republican Senators said Durham must have independence to complete his “important work until all those responsible for the fraud committed upon the American people are brought to justice.”

Clinton has denied the spying allegations.

“Trump & Fox are desperately spinning up a fake scandal to distract from his real ones,” she said.
