Even Democrats Who Had Suspended Their Campaigns Won Races

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The so-called “blue tsunami” in Iowa and Texas was powerful enough to sweep at least two Democrats to victory despite both candidates having suspended their campaigns months earlier.

In Texas, Democrat Ericka Lomick defeated Republican Alan Blaylock with 51% of the vote in their race for state House District 93. Notably, Lomick’s victory occurred more than a month after she suspended her campaign in response to questions about whether she was eligible to serve in the state House.

According to the Fort Worth Report, a PAC backing Blaylock accused Lomick of being ineligible to serve in the state legislature due to her “federal convictions, unpaid taxes and deceptive statements.”

Although Lomick did not confirm or deny the allegations, she said she was stepping aside to “allow the people of HD 93 to elect someone who can serve the district without the burden of defending against attacks that would threaten to derail the business of the people.”

In Iowa, Democrat Eric Armstrong beat Republican Keith Jones in Iowa’s 20th House District, winning 55% of the vote to Jones’ 45%, with more than 95% of ballots counted.

Armstrong’s victory came as a shock given that he suspended his campaign on Sept. 7 following health complications.

“Running a successful campaign requires immense physical and mental energy. Recently, I have been facing some personal health issues that require my full attention and immediate care,” Armstrong said at the time.

Armstrong reportedly told The New York Times that he plans to serve in the House to the best of his abilities.

The victories for Armstrong and Lomick came amid a broader Democratic wave, with the party now expected to reclaim a commanding majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and secure at least 55 seats in the U.S. Senate.
