Trump Defends Iran Strikes After Midterm Losses

Trump believes the vice president’s claim was “largely true because it drove the gasoline up.”

(Sarah Roderick-Fitch, The Center Square) On the heels of a brutal loss by Republicans in the midterms, President Donald Trump defended his decision to strike Iran.

The president was also asked about a social media post from Vice President JD Vance blaming the losses on the war with Iran, which the president didn’t appear to take issue with, despite the post being critical of the administration’s handling of the war.

“I thought it was good. I knew that when I went in. We stopped [Iran] from having a nuclear weapon, and they’ll never have a nuclear weapon,” the president told reporters at the construction site of the new ballroom.

Trump believes the vice president’s claim was “largely true because it drove the gasoline up.”

The president noted that gas prices are falling, with the U.S. now exporting oil from the Strait of Hormuz at prewar levels.

Gas prices appear to agree with Trump: the average gallon of gas has dropped two cents since Tuesday’s election from $4.14 to $4.12, and down 12 cents from a week ago and 24 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

However, the president doesn’t appear to have any regrets over his decision to preemptively strike Iran on Feb. 28.

“I’d have to do it again because long-term, it’s the only answer. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” the president added.

Trump was also asked about the future of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, standing by the wartime secretary.

“I think he’s doing a very good job,” Trump explained.

Despite threats from some Democrats to wage war against the Trump administration and Trump himself. He remains unfazed by threats of another impeachment.

The president was asked if he is concerned about impeachment, to which he replied, “Not even a little bit. I think it would destroy the Democratic Party if they did that.”

Trump told Fox News that he is prepared to work with Democrats, adding that he sees a possibility to work with them on immigration.
