(José Niño, Headline USA) Cami Clark, the wife of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, spent years cultivating a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein while running a startup she described as a “revolutionary porn company,” according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.
The outlet reports that literary agent John Brockman connected Clark and her business partner Michelle Capocefalo with Epstein in March 2011, telling the financier “you should connect for dinner with my girls, Cami and Michelle. They’re in LA raising money for porn movie aimed at women’s market.”
Clark wrote back almost immediately, “Hello Jeffrey! We would love to have dinner with you this evening,” and sent her phone number.
Days later she emailed him a script for her company’s debut film, “American Girl in Paris,” calling it “a little nsfw.”
A year passed before Clark reached out again, and Epstein initially failed to place her. She reminded him of their connection through Brockman, adding, “We have the free luxury porn company. Does that ring a bell?” Epstein answered, “Yes, a loud gong,” prompting Clark to joke, “you would be the first person that didn’t remember us.”
Clark then asked Epstein directly for money, mentioning that her team had hired staff from Oprah Winfrey’s company and Ashton Kutcher’s Katalyst. Epstein, already a registered sex offender at that point, turned her down, writing, “Can’t do sex TV.” According to the WSJ, Clark pivoted and pitched him instead on a “social dieting app” for women that tracked fitness data, nutrition and menstrual cycles.
Their exchanges continued for roughly two years. Clark invited Epstein to a Manhattan housewarming party and linked with him on LinkedIn, the WSJ found. In 2013, Epstein received an automated LinkedIn prompt congratulating Clark on becoming CEO of Female Algorithm Technologies, a venture with a barely traceable digital footprint beyond a provocative Tumblr page.
The WSJ notes these dealings occurred years before Clark married Amodei in 2022 and long before Anthropic’s founding in December 2020. Reporters also found that online traces of Clark have grown sparse over time, with someone apparently working to scrub references to her, and that Amodei’s Wikipedia entry did not disclose his marriage until this summer.
Despite this low profile, the WSJ describes Clark as a key strategic adviser to her husband who helped bring investor Eric Schmidt into Anthropic’s orbit during a past romantic relationship with him.
