(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) After FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday once again failed to adequately cooperate with a House Oversight Committee’s investigation into alleged bribery and corruption schemes involving President Joe Biden, the committee’s chairman announced that it would start proceedings on Thursday to hold the bureau chief in contempt of Congress.
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., told reporters that his decision was reached after a meeting Monday with Wray, when the FBI chief again refused to hand over a requested document related to alleged Biden family criminal activity.
Wray reportedly provided Comer and oversight committee ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., a briefing on the document on Monday, but stopped short of producing it for the committee’s review. The bombshell document, a confidential informant FD-1023 file, reportedly relates to Biden receiving upwards of $5 million from a foreign national in a bribery scheme to effect policy outcomes during Biden’s stint as vice president during the Obama administration.
Comer came away from the Monday briefing more convinced than ever that the damning allegations made by a FBI whistleblower, a “highly credible” informant used by the DOJ since the Obama administration and paid a handsome six-figures for his efforts, “has not been disproven and is currently being used in an ongoing investigation,” he said.
“These are facts and no amount of spin, and frankly lies from the White House or Congressional Democrats, can change this information,” Comer said as part of his announcement to launch contempt proceedings against Wray.
Raskin continued the obfuscation, trying to run cover for Biden and emerging from the FBI briefing to claim he didn’t recall any mention of an ongoing investigation. He also implied the contempt call was politically timed to distract from the latest Trump with hunt.
Comer was appropriately dismissive when pressed by reporters on why the actual document needed to be presented to the oversight committee, when FBI officials have said they’re “cooperating in good faith.”
“I’m supposed to take the FBI’s word that they’re investigating this?” Comer shot back and assured that, “The investigation is not dead. This is only the beginning.”
