(Abdul–Rahman Oladimeji Bello, Headline USA) Christian students sued a former Michigan State University professor who required her students to buy a subscription to her political organization, called “The Rebellion Community,” which is known to donate to Planned Parenthood.
The leftist, pro-abortion professor could have raised more than $120,000 from these forced subscriptions to her organization. MSU reassigned another professor to the course at the time and reimbursed the students.
The Daily Caller reported that two students filed lawsuits against professor Amy Wisner on May 18, through the legal nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom, for violating their First Amendment rights.
“While Plaintiffs enjoy testing the mettle of their own views by exploring other ideas and perspectives in the context of their coursework — indeed, they believe this is part of the value of higher education — they do not wish to financially support the speech of others that contradicts their views, and they do not wish to become members of groups organized for the purpose of promoting messages that contradict their views,” the lawsuit read.
According to the Daily Caller, Wisner wrote on Facebook, “The Rebellion community is a safe place to coordinate our efforts to burn everything to the fucking ground. 100% of membership fees are donated to Planned Parenthood.”
However, Logan Spena, an ADF legal counsel, stated through an ADF release that teachers do not have the power to force students into supporting ideologies they do not believe.
He stated that university professors are not allowed to force students to fund and endorse political advocacy groups that express such viewpoints, yet Wisner compelled students like Nathan Barbieri and Nolan Radomski to make contributions to groups against their beliefs.
“Nathan and Nolan simply want to get a business degree without being compelled to pay membership fees that will be donated to Planned Parenthood or support speech that directly contradicts their religious beliefs,” he said.
