(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) New York City Democrat Mayor Eric Adams has abandoned his cheap “Tent City” plan to house illegal aliens and instead chosen to house them in $450-per-night rooms at the luxury Watson Hotel.
The single-male illegal aliens will enjoy the hotel’s 3.5 star amenities, including a fitness center and swimming pool on the roof, the Daily Mail reported.
New York City’s illegal alien population has grown quickly since border states like Arizona and Texas started to ship them to states whose citizens claim to love open borders.
The city has about 23,000 illegal aliens in its care, of whom 17,500 are seeking asylum. In addition, New York City has more than 63,000 people in its homeless shelter system.
Adams spent $650,000 to build temporary housing for 500 single males on Randall’s Island, and the shelter opened on Oct. 19. Less than a month later, Adams closed the new shelter, The Week reported.
With blue states suffering from the illegal immigration crisis, the Biden administration apparently tightened its border-security policies and partially reinstated former President Donald Trump‘s order to immediately carry new arrivals back to Mexico.
This has reduced the shelter system’s population so much that Adams feels free to close the new facility, yet he has no cheaper place to house them than the Watson Hotel’s Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center.
No one will stay in the Tent City after next Wednesday.
Adams said New York City wants more illegal aliens.
“We continue to welcome asylum seekers arriving in New York City with compassion and care,” Adams said in a statement, adding that the Watson Hotel Center “will provide asylum seekers with a place to stay, access support, and get to their final destination.”
