(Headline USA) A majority of voters support Republican governors’ decision to send illegal immigrants to Blue states in leftist cities, according to a new poll from CBS News.
About 51% of registered voters said they support transporting migrants to self-described “sanctuary cities,” with 49% saying they disapprove. More than 88% said they believe the move was effective at bringing attention to the border crisis.
Republican voters strongly support the move, with 87% saying it’s a good idea. Independent voters narrowly disapprove 48% to 52%.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has defended the strategy, arguing the point of it is to force Democrat officials to bear some of the burden that small border towns have to deal with every year.
“The Biden-Harris administration continues ignoring and denying the historic crisis at our southern border, which has endangered and overwhelmed Texas communities for almost two years,” Abbott said in a statement earlier this month.
Since April, Abbott has bused more than 11,000 illegal immigrants to Democrat-run cities, including New York City, Washington, D.C., and Chicago. He even sent several busloads to Vice President Kamala Harris’s residents at the Naval Observatory.
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has also sent several buses to Washington, D.C. And Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew about 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
Democrats have accused the governors of playing politics with human lives.
“These vulnerable migrants were reportedly misled about where they were headed, told they would be headed to Boston, misled about what they would be provided when they arrived,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed despite growing evidence to the contrary. “These are the kinds of tactics we see from smugglers.”
But the GOP has pointed out that President Joe Biden’s refusal to secure the southern border puts migrants’ lives at risk every single day. This year alone, more than 750 migrants have died making the trek across the southern border.
