Black Lives Matter Leader Stole $10 Million from Org, According to Lawsuit

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A top leader in the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation was accused of stealing millions of dollars from the donation-based organization through a “scheme of fraud and misinterpretation.”

According to The Daily Wire, the lawsuit was field in Los Angeles County Superior Court by Black Lives Matter Grassroots.

The group accused Shalomyah Bowers, one of three members of the group’s board of directors, of stealing more than $10 million from the group for personal use.

The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation raises funds through donations, which are then distributed to Black Lives Matter Grassroots, which controls localized groups.

The lawsuit referenced federal and state level investigations into the group, accusing Bowers of using the group’s funds as his “personal piggy bank.”

“While BLM leaders and movement workers were on the street risking their lives, Mr. Bowers remained in his cushy offices devising a scheme of fraud and misrepresentation to break the implied-in-fact contract between donors and BLM,” the lawsuit said.

Bowers and the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation’s board claimed that those who filed the suit were essentially racists.

“They would rather take the same steps of our white oppressors and utilize the criminal legal system which is propped up by white supremacy (the same system they say they want to dismantle) to solve movement disputes,” the organization said.

Bowers was brought on board by co-founder Patrisse Cullors in 2020, the year of the Black Lives Matter riots, to raise funds for the group.

Cullors has since resigned, largely due to the controversial purchasing of several lavish mansions and criticism over the violent riots of the summer of 2020.

Cullors claimed that criticism from her critics did not factor into her decision to step down.

“Those were right-wing attacks that tried to discredit my character, and I don’t operate off of what the right thinks about me,” she said.
