(Chris Parker, Headline USA) As nearly a dozen states implement near-total bans on abortions, New Mexico Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is forcing taxpayers to pay for the state’s preparations for an influx of women seeking abortions.
The new $10 million state-funded clinic will be located near the Texas border, where most of its patients are expected to visit from, reported Just the News. New Mexico remains the only state bordering Texas that maintains legal abortions.
“These efforts to restrict access to reproductive health services from other states may lead more individuals to seek services from New Mexico healthcare providers,” Lujan Grisham said Wednesday in announcing her executive order earmarking the money.
“We must work to protect and expand the availability of these services to address the demands on our system.”
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade earlier this year in support of state’s rights, Lujan Grisham lamented the decision while undermining the autonomy of an infant’s body.
“The moment we have long dreaded has arrived, and our nation will be the worse for it,” she stated on the governor’s office website.
“With this ruling, the Supreme Court has unilaterally thrown out 50 years of judicial precedent and subverted the will of millions of Americans who believe in a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her body.”
The overturning of Roe v. Wade didn’t actually ban abortions, it just returned the 10th Amendment right for states to choose whether it should be legal in their jurisdictions.
Mark Ronchetti, her Republican rival, has stated that “taxpayer funds should not be used for a clinic in which late-term abortions would be available for out-of-state patients.”
He also supports banning abortions if the fetus is more than 15-weeks-old. He beleives there should be exceptions in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.
