Left’s War on Law and Order Causes Police Shortages, Surging Violent Crime

'We’re getting more calls for service and there are fewer people to answer them... '

(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Two years into BLM‘s defund the police movement, violent crime is soaring, and police are understaffed amidst budget cuts, slander and a rise in violence against police officers.

“Police departments across the country are facing severe staffing shortages as they struggle to recruit and retain officers,” according to Axios and the “shortages have coincided with a spike in crime across the nation.”

Specifically, in the year of the national riot, 2020, violent crime rates rose for the first time in nine years. The year 2020 also saw the murder rate increase by 30%, the single highest hike in murders in 80 years, Axios reported.

In 2021 the number of homicides using a firearm in Denver doubled the 2015 total, according to Axios, while 2021 saw the most homicides ever recorded in Philadelphia.

Police spokesperson Eric Gripp succinctly explained the problem.

“We’re getting more calls for service and there are fewer people to answer them,” Gripp told the Associated Press. “Departments all over are down and recruitment has been difficult.”

The political roots of this police shortage may be seen in Minneapolis after the 2020 riots. A judge found the mayor of Minneapolis derelict in his duty because he failed to replace police officers resigning amid the riots and public slander.

The rise in violence also coincided with the popularity of the defund the police movement, which even then, some Democrats knew was causing trouble.

The year 2020 also saw a surge in violent attacks on police officers. In 2020 alone, 60,000 police officers were assaulted, an increase of over 4,000 from 2019, according to FBI statistics.

Tragically, the assaults continued, and in 2021 more police died in the line of duty than in any other year, with an increase in “ambush-style attacks” of 126%.

In addition to funding cuts and increases in violence, police officers feel politically attacked by the president of The United States. The national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police said, “I would say that most police officers don’t believe that Joe Biden is on their side.”

Now that the country is facing the disastrous consequences of defunding, slandering, and assaulting police officers, some leftist politicians are denying they ever took part in the defund the police movement.

Other leftists, like Biden, openly contradict themselves by seeking increased funding for police. Still, others cannot utilize pattern recognition; Black Lives Matter, for example, slammed Biden for seeking additional funding for police.
