(Headline USA) House Republicans moved to strip Disney of its no-fly-zone privileges this week over both its California and Florida theme parks, arguing the company’s embrace of radical gender ideology must be punished.
Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, introduced legislation, called the Airlines Independent of Restrictions Act, calling on Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to repeal the Notices to Airmen privilege that Disneyland and Disney World currently enjoy.
Nehls noted in a letter to Buttigieg that Disney is “the only theme park that benefits from the restriction for the commercial gains of eliminating banner ads and disruptive aircrafts from their parks.”
“The federal government should not grant special privileges and pick favorites for powerful well-connected companies like Disney,” Nehls said in a statement.
“Measures designed to protect our national security and public safety should not be co-opted by corporations looking to gain … The principle of fairness requires that the federal government does not favor one organization over another, or thereover, enact flight restrictions to benefit one favored organization.”
Nehls admitted that Disney’s embrace of wokeism also influenced his decision to introduce the bill.
“Major corporations should not get unreasonable privileges just because they have the ability to bankroll Congress, especially when they are trying to force their ideology on our children,” he said.
The bill is the latest effort by Republicans to hold Disney accountable for vowing to include woke content on sexuality and gender in its programs for children.
Earlier this year, Florida Republicans stripped Disney of its special self-rule status.
“You’re a corporation based in Burbank, California, and you’re gonna marshal your economic might to attack the parents of my state,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
“We view that as a provocation, and we’re going to fight back against that.”
