(Alex Tien, Headline USA) A recent CNN poll foretells more bad news for Democrats running for office at the midterm elections this November.
Last week, CNN polling found that Republicans are still strongly favored to take over the House and the Senate, even after the recent leak of the Supreme Court opinion overturning the infamous 1973 abortion case, Roe v. Wade.
Politico released a leaked draft of a majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade. The identity of the leaker has yet to be revealed. However it is widely speculated that the leak was done in order to sway voter opinion in favor of Democrats this fall.
CNN now finds that this leak has had very little effect on voters’ minds. Voters seem to be far more concerned with the terrible economy that has resulted from President Biden’s regime, including rampant inflation and record high gas prices.
“The recent leak of a draft US Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade seemed to give Democrats a winning issue to rally base and swing voters in the
midterm elections.”
“Our new poll, however, shows that such hopes are likely unfounded. Republicans look like they remain in the driver’s seat for November because voters don’t trust Democrats on the all-important issue of the economy.”
The new survey that was conducted after the draft opinion became public, shows Republicans currently hold a 49% to 42% advantage on the generic congressional ballot. If that 7-point lead continues through the election, it would be as large a win for Republicans in the national House vote as it was in 2010, when Republicans regained the House majority and ended up with 242 seats out of 435.
The economy seems to weigh far more importantly on citizens’ minds, and according to a CNN poll earlier this year, over 50% of voters view the economy as the “most important issue.” Further, more Americans (46%) said they viewed Republicans as closer to their position on the economy than Democrats (31%).
