Cheney Denies Rumors of Tension in Jan. 6 Committee over Trump DOJ Referral

'Maybe we will, maybe we won’t...'

(John RansomHeadline USA) RINO Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming took to a Sunday morning talk show to deny a report that there’s a split of opinion on the Jan. 6 committee about a criminal referral for former President Donald Trump.

“I’m very proud of the bipartisan way in which we’re operating, and I’m confident that we will work to come to agreement on all of the issues that we’re facing,” Cheney told Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union, according to The Hill.

“So I wouldn’t say that it’s accurate right now to say that there’s a dispute on this issue,” she added.

The New York Times reported last week that, despite the fact the members feel they have enough evidence to warrant a criminal referral to the Department of Justice regarding Trump’s actions during the Jan. 6 uprising, a referral, would be seen as a political act, versus a law-enforcement action.

“The members haven’t had those conversations,” Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., told the New York Times about a potential DOJ referral for Trump—appearing to back away from the idea that any conclusions have been made.

“Right now, we’re gathering the material that we need,” he added. “As the investigative phase winds down, we’ll have more conversations about what the report looks like.”

The report in the Times may just be a fig leaf for the committee’s reluctance to send a referral to the DOJ, which would then have to make a decision to prosecute or not.

That, in turn, would add a lot of political pressure to a Biden administration already manning the opinion poll barricades prior to midterm elections.

A new CBS poll shows Biden’s approval rating at 42%, with Biden scoring under 40% on crime, immigration, the economy and inflation.

His lowest marks come on inflation where 69% of voters disapprove of his performance.

So there’s a little wonder that the J6 committee would be of several minds about whether to make a criminal referral, even if it would satisfy progressives in the party, because it certainly won’t make life easier for Biden.

“Maybe we will, maybe we won’t,” said J6 Committee member, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif.

So may be Cheney’s right, and there isn’t a split of opinion in the committee.

Perhaps the committee is just really immature.
