Fla. May Repeal 1967 Law that Lets Disney Act as Gov’t

'What I would say as a matter of first principle is I don’t support special privileges in law just because a company is powerful and they’ve been able to wield a lot of power...'

(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and a statehouse member acknowledged that Republican legislators have discussed repealing a 1967 law that allows Walt Disney World to act with governmental powers within its theme park, Twitchy reported.

State Rep. Spencer Roach, R-Fort Myers, tweeted that state lawmakers had their second meeting about the Reedy Creek Improvement Act on March 29.

DeSantis spoke about the repeal at a press conference Thursday in West Palm Beach, and his comments indicated his favorability toward rescinding Disney’s self-governing status, according to Fox News.

“What I would say as a matter of first principle is I don’t support special privileges in law just because a company is powerful and they’ve been able to wield a lot of power,” he said.

The debate about Disney’s governmental power comes as the corporation pushes its woke, LGBT agenda.

Disney opposed Florida’s anti-grooming law, which prohibits gender identity and sex education in kindergarten through third grade.

In leaked video, Disney executives acknowledged that they had been pushing a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” and to include “many, many, many LGBTQIA characters” in children’s entertainment.

The company’s theme park and entertainment industry contribute a huge economic benefit to the economy, but DeSantis has not relented.

“I think what has happened is there’s a lot of these special privileges that are not justifiable, but because Disney had held so much sway, they were able to sustain a lot of special treatment over the years,” he said.
