Rand Paul to Introduce Amendment Eliminating Fauci’s Position

'This will create accountability and oversight into a taxpayer-funded position that has largely abused its power and has been responsible for many failures and misinformation...'

(Headline USA) Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., announced on Monday that he will introduce an amendment to fire coronavirus czar Anthony Fauci and eliminate his role entirely as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

The bill would divvy up Fauci’s position into three new roles, so that no one can act as “dictator-in-chief” in the name of public health again, Paul explained in an op-ed for Fox News.

The NIAID would also be separated into three national research institutes: the National Institute of Allergic Diseases, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and the National Institute of Immunologic Diseases.

“Each of these three institutes will be led by a director who is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate for a five-year term,” Paul wrote. “This will create accountability and oversight into a taxpayer-funded position that has largely abused its power and has been responsible for many failures and misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Fauci cited his own experience in the scientific and medical fields, arguing that he has never “encountered someone with the gall to proclaim himself ‘The Science’” until he met Fauci.

“No one person should have the sole authority to dictate science, especially when that one person wasn’t ever following the science,” Paul said. “I’ve said that from the beginning, and I’ve been proven right over, and over, and over again. On masks, lockdowns, schools, natural immunity, all of it.”

Paul has also vowed to investigate Fauci if Republicans win back Congress during the 2022 midterm elections, accusing him of lying before Congress about his role in the funding of gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China.

“If we win in November, if I’m chairman of a committee, if I have subpoena power, we’ll go after every one of [Fauci’s] records,” he said last month. “We’ll have an investigator go through this piece-by-piece because we don’t need this to happen again.”
