House Republican Introduces Impeachment Articles Against DHS Sec. Mayorkas

'The Secretary of Homeland Security does not have the option of simply releasing those aliens into the interior of the United States...'

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., introduced articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his “reckless abandonment” of border security amidst the ongoing immigration crisis.

Biggs alleged that Mayorkas has abandoned his duty to secure the border, allowing leftists such as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to throw the door open to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, many of whom tested positive for coronavirus after gaining entry into the U.S.

“Secretary Mayorkas has failed to faithfully uphold his oath and has instead presided over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the Constitution and the security of the United States,” the article stated.

The resolution also accused Mayorkas of having failed to maintain “operation control of the border” as required by law.

Specifically, Biggs cited the Biden administration’s return to “catch-and-release,” a policy that has allowed border officials to release thousands of migrants into the U.S. while they await court hearings, which sometimes take years to conclude.

“The Secretary of Homeland Security does not have the option of simply releasing those aliens into the interior of the United States,” it says.

Recent estimates have indicated that around 90% of illegals never return for their hearings after disappearing into the US interior. Coincidentally, only about one in 10 migrants meets the standard of “credible fear” required for legal asylum.

The second article of impeachment addressed the coronavirus outbreak among migrant camps.

Biggs accused Mayorkas of having “engaged in a pattern of conduct that has placed departmental personnel and American citizens at risk of exposure to and contracting COVID-19 by refusing to take necessary steps to prevent potentially contagious illegal aliens from entering the United States.”

He clarified that the impeachment resolution was not about Mayorakas as a person, but about his policy decisions.

“This is not because of his personality, not because of his partisanship,” Biggs said. “I don’t care about that. What this is about is he is enacting bad policy.”
