President Donald Trump is already considering a potential 2024 presidential bid, and might announce his intention to run again during Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s inauguration — if it happens — according to the Daily Beast.
Trump’s campaign is still challenging the election results in several states, but if Biden is declared the winner Trump plans to remain in the spotlight, according to officials close to him.
He wants to keep the GOP behind him over the next four years, and his team is already surveying various donors to see who would support his 2024 bid from the get-go.
“The president has, in the past two weeks, even floated the idea of doing a 2024-related event during Biden’s inauguration week, possibly on Inauguration Day,” the Daily Beast reported.
Republicans are soundly behind him, according to various reports.
During a meeting in the Oval Office earlier this month, Trump told Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien that he would run again if his legal challenges fell flat.
“If you do that — and I think I speak for everybody in the room — we’re with you 100 percent,” O’Brien told Trump, according to Bloomberg.
Several polls confirm that Republican voters would similarly support another run from Trump.
One survey from Seven Letter Insight found that 66% of Republicans would support Trump’s 2024 campaign, and a Morning Consult survey found that 54% of Republicans would vote for Trump in a 2024 primary.
Trump has a few other strategies in mind.
He is reportedly considering starting a media network to compete with Fox News, which has become increasingly anti-Trump, according to the White House.
The network called Arizona for Biden before the vote had been counted, and falsely predicted that Democrats would gain more than five House seats.
“Somebody said: What’s the biggest difference between this and four years ago? And I say, Fox,” Trump said.
