California Gov. Gavin Newsom attempted to apologize this week for attending a birthday party in violation of his own coronavirus restrictions.
Newsom and his wife were caught attending a birthday party for a California lobbyist with more than a dozen friends at the pricy French Laundry restaurant near San Francisco last Friday, but Newsom insisted that the whole thing was a “bad mistake.”
As soon as he realized the group was larger than he expected, Newsom said he should have “stood up and … drove back to my house.”
“The spirit of what I’m preaching all the time was contradicted,” he admitted. “I need to preach and practice, not just preach. So I want to apologize to you because I need to preach and practice, not just preach and not practice, and I’ve done my best to do that. We’re all human. We all fall short sometimes.”
Newsom’s dinner party is not the only hypocritical action he’s been caught in though.
It was recently reported that his children are attending an in-person private school, even while millions of children who attend public schools have been unable to return to the classroom.
San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer slammed Newsom for living a different life than the rest of his constituents.
His kids can learn in person. But yours can’t.
He can celebrate birthday parties. But you can’t.
He can dine on a $350 meal at one California’s fanciest restaurants during the worst recession in generations. But you definitely can’t.
