Some of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s family members said they’re frustrated with his inconsistent messaging regarding the coronavirus pandemic and his suggestions for potential further lockdowns.
Fauci’s cousin, who is also named Anthony, owns a restaurant in New York and said he has experienced firsthand the financial cost of the shutdown.
Many of his other family members agree that locking down the country again is simply not an option, he told the New York Post.
“They shouldn’t do the lockdowns,” the restaurant owner said. “Especially now. If you don’t abide by the rules … shut that area down, but don’t shut down the whole industry.”
His son, Joe Fauci, agreed and said Dr. Anthony Fauci needs to recognize how much damage the lockdown caused.
“In the beginning, I thought [Dr. Fauci] was fabulous, but then a few times he flip-flopped on different things,” Joe said. “He had us all locked down at a tremendous rate. They should have loosened things up when it was slowing down in the summer. Everything else was loosening up except the restaurant business.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci has flip-flopped on several policies related to the federal government’s coronavirus response.
Back in March, he told Americans not to wear face coverings, arguing that they wouldn’t do anything to prevent the spread of the virus.
Now, however, he is suggesting that a national mask mandate might be necessary.
More recently, Dr. Anthony Fauci said he would be open to another nationwide lockdown, though he said that probably won’t be necessary.
He has, however, discouraged holiday gatherings and urged Americans to avoid seeing their families this Thanksgiving.
“You may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice that social gathering, unless you’re pretty certain that the people that you’re dealing with are not infected,” he said in October. “That is unfortunately a risk, when you have people coming from out of town, gathering together in an indoor setting. It is unfortunate, because that’s such a sacred part of American tradition — the family gathering around Thanksgiving. But that is a risk.”
