Zelenskyy Suspends Opposition Political Parties to Protect Democracy

'Given the full-scale war and ties of some political structures with this state ... Ukraine has decided to suspend any activity of a number of political parties... '

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) In the name of democracy, embattled Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suspended oppositional political parties, Bloomberg reported.

Though it will likely be reframed by the mainstream media, the move is unprecedented in Ukraine, and all but guarantees that Zelenskyy will remain in power for the foreseeable future.

He alleged that alternative political parties are connected to Russia–a tactic seen in America in recent years–and used this accusation to justify the destruction of the parties.

The Ukrainian president invoked martial law to justify his decision.

“Given the full-scale war and ties of some political structures with this state (Russia), the National Security Council of Ukraine has decided to suspend any activity of a number of political parties,” he said in a video message.

The idea of defending democracy abroad has long been used by the political establishment in America to justify radical political action domestically.

Now it appears that Zelenskyy is taking a page out of the Americans’ book, defending a political ideology rather than one’s own citizens.

Earlier this month, he also invoked martial law to create a centralized Ukranian state media, a propaganda wing for his newly-forming regime. At the time, he had also cited media collusion with the Russians.

“The activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response,” said Zelenskyy via video to the nation.

The president had even banished Russian television stations from being aired prior to his invocation of martial law.

Zelenskyy also said that the Russians’ “only chance” of getting out of the crisis unscathed is to accelerate the slow-developing peace negotiations that have gotten under way in recent days.

In the same breath, Bloomberg also noted that a large American supply of weapons will arrive in the Ukraine soon, aiding them in their defense against the Russian attack.
